This bird relishes an old-school battle

I stand for tradition, pride and honor, old-school, if you will.

After all, I am the All-American bird, don't you know.

And an old-school, All-American high school football rivalry is taking place in Karns City Friday night as two unbeaten teams and classic rivals do battle for the lead in the Keystone-Shortway Athletic Conference.

These two teams played two defensive-dominated games last year and split, with neither team scoring more than 10 points in either game.

Look for another tight tussle between neighboring communities who have developed a similar old-style work ethic.

It's like going back in time — and proves this country can still showcase such innocent and honest ideals.

May our flag — and myself — fly high!

OK ... got a little carried away there. Here's how I see this weekend's action:

BUTLERat NORTHHILLS— The Golden Tornado will let it all hang out, but will succumb to the very tradition it's been working so hard at trying to build.

North Hills, 28-15.SENECAVALLEYat ERIEMcDOWELL — The Raiders are still trying to end their seemingly endless Quad North losing streak, this time against a Quad North visitor. On the road, it's too much to ask.

McDowell, 25-15.MONITEAUat KARNSCITY— Two undefeated teams and only one can stay that way. The Warriors have been a little more consistent on offense, but a mistake will likely determine this game either way.

Moniteau, 22-17.KNOCHat LAURELHIGHLANDS — The Knights will find some offense this week. Unfortunately, they'll find me trying to dodge a lot of flying footballs toward the end zone, too.

Laurel Highlands, 29-25.NESHANNOCKat MARS — The Planets have been unstoppable of late. That's not going to change here.

Mars, 44-7.TITUSVILLEat SLIPPERYROCK — The Rockets broke into the win column last week, but are welcoming an overwhelming foe for homecoming this week.

Titusville, 30-9.GROVECITYat SHARON— Yes, I have to root for my Eagles, but they're playing the Tigers and cats hate birds. We Eagles are big birds, but Tigers are big cats ... and these Tigers are undefeated.

Sharon, 15-10.I also like Redbank Valley over A-CValley 37-10, Lakeview over Union 27-6, Freeport over Deer Lakes 35-3 and Shenango over Summit Academy 38-18.
