Firm adds game market
CLINTON TWP — A II-VI subsidiary is helping to cool off the consumer electronics and gaming world.
Marlow Industries, based in Dallas, makes thermoelectric cooler with military applications, but now it is expanding into consumer electronics, said Craig Creaturo, II-VI’s chief financial officer.
While he said neither II-VI nor Marlow names their customers, Creaturo said Marlow has found new uses for thermoelectric cooling in devices that use gesture recognition, or machines and images that move like people.
“Gesture recognition requires the use of multiple lasers which in turn creates a lot of heat,” Creaturo said.
In simple terms, instead of using a fan like those inside most home computers to cool computer components, a thermoelectric is used to cool the inside of an electronic device.
“Marlow has been making these for the military and the telecommunications industry for a number of years, and is now finding new applications for consumer electronics and gaming devices,” Creaturo said.
