Bernice Spurgeon, 94, of Evans City, formerly of Mars, died Tuesday morning at her home.

Born in Pittsburgh, Dec. 7, 1913, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Hodgdon.

She was a homemaker and had been a secretary at U.S. Steel and at the Dravo Corp. in her younger years.

Mrs. Spurgeon was a Methodist.

She enjoyed traveling.

Surviving are a son, David J. Spurgeon and his wife, Kelly, of West Bend, Wis.; a close friend, Patricia Frontz of Evans City, with whom she lived for many years; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Judson C. Spurgeon, who died Feb. 14, 1986; and by two sisters, Helen and Florence.
