Margaret J. Bernard
Margaret J. "Peggy" Shaffer Bernard, 80, of New Castle died Tuesday afternoon at UPMC Passavant hospital.
Born Nov. 8, 1927, in Cowansville, she was the daughter of William Harrison Shaffer and Helen Muriel Guthrie.
She retired with 30 years at Sears in New Castle, where she worked in the cashier's office.
Mrs. Bernard was a member of the Mary Mother of Hope Parish, New Castle.
She and her husband were car enthusiasts and belonged to the Studebaker Club, the Corvette Club and the Corvair Club. She also enjoyed birdwatching and cooking for her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Bernard and her fiance, Robert Morris, of New Castle and Peggy Partridge and her husband, Barry, of Gibsonia; a son, Michael Bernard and his fiancée, Debbie Zona, of New Castle; a sister, Myrtle Kleer of Las Vegas; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Paul T. Bernard, whom she married Dec. 5, 1946, died Oct. 23, 1990. A granddaughter, Danielle Bernard, and an infant brother, William Shaffer, also preceded her in death.

"Peggy" Shaffer Bernard, who died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the<B> Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory</B>, 941 S. Mill St., New Castle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mary Mother of Hope Church, New Castle.
