A woman fatally shot herself in the head at 11:45 a.m. today on Zelienople's Main Street, police said.

The shooting occurred in front of Mathew Jewelers on the north side of the street.

Police Chief Jim Miller said the woman, believed to be a borough resident in her 30s, died from the wounds.

The woman’s identity has also not been released.

Police do not believe there were any witnesses, however some people heard the shot which was believed to be from a pistol.

She was transported from the scene by Harmony EMS.

Police are investigating the shooting as an apparent suicide.
