House guest charged
A lingering house guest is charged with attacking his host at a Butler home where they had been recently living.
Joshua A. McCaslin, 26, of Renfrew allegedly punched 33-year-old Alexander F. Brown several times Wednesday, leaving him with a badly swollen left eye
But adding insult to injury, Brown, too, was cited after responding officers smelled burned marijuana coming from his room and found four marijuana pipes, according to court documents.
Brown told police that he and McCaslin had gotten into an argument over McCaslin “overstaying his welcome,” documents said.
McCaslin also acknowledged the altercation was “over living arrangements,” police said.
McCaslin had been living as Brown’s roommate for the past three to four months.
Police were called to the home shortly before 2:30 p.m., when they found the injured Brown. He refused medical treatment.
McCaslin admitted he had hit Brown in the face several times but only after Brown had taken an “aggressive stance” against him as the two argued, documents said.
Police ended up charging McCaslin with simple assault. They charged Brown with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Preliminary hearings for both men are set for May 23.
