Butler PoliceTuesday — Police charged John F. Grinder III, 60, of Butler Township with drunken and drugged driving stemming from his arrest last month on South Main Street. Officers nabbed Grinder after another man, believing the suspect was intoxicated, stopped Grinder from driving away from the Rite Aid store.The defendant, who had an open container of beer in his vehicle's cup holder, failed several field sobriety tests and later was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.192 percent, more than twice the state's 0.08 percent legal limit, according to court documents.Additionally, the toxicology report showed he had the prescription sedative Zolpidem in his system.Grinder is charged with driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and controlled substance.
Butler Twp. Police7:21 p.m. Tuesday — Navika Gadhok, 25, of Renfrew was caught allegedly shoplifting $214 worth of clothing at the Kohl's store at Butler Crossing. Gadhok is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.
Butler County DetectivesTuesday — Matthew G. Hibbard, 20, of Center Township was charged with trying to pass a bogus urine sample during a drug screening test at the Butler County Adult Probation Office in Butler. According to court documents, a probation officer found Hibbard with a “small bottle of urine.” He is charged with furnishing drug-free urine.
State Police, Butler9:29 p.m. Sunday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Jared M. Sullivan, 31, of Hilliards struck a deer on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township. Police cited Sullivan for driving an unregistered vehicle.4:08 a.m. Sunday — Jahleel M. Jones, 20, of Pittsburgh was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 108 near Crocker Road in Slippery Rock Township. Police said they also found Jones in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.1:31 a.m. Sunday — Daniel D. Phillips Jr., 21, of New Castle was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Harmony Road near The Grove apartments in Slippery Rock Township.3:19 a.m. Saturday — Leroy T. Steiner, 23, of East Butler allegedly head-butted Alyssa N. Hartman, 20, of Butler during a domestic dispute at a home in the 200 block of Old East Butler Road in Oakland Township. Hartman suffered swelling and bruising to her left eye and cheek. Police said Steiner, who fled the scene before troopers arrived, is charged with simple assault and harassment.5:15 a.m. Friday — Jamie L. Buchanan, 35, of Harrisville was hurt when a pickup truck struck the SUV she was driving in Marion Township. She was stopped at Routes 308 and 58 when the crash happened. Buchanan, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Police said William E. Johns, 36, of Karns City, who was driving the pickup, was cited for a stop sign violation.Friday — An unknown thief stole 30 pills of Subutex from a 47-year-old man's house on Overlook Drive in Slippery Rock Township. Subutex is a prescription drug used to treat opioid dependence. The victim was sleeping when the burglary happened between 10 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday. Later that day, an unidentified vehicle struck Walters' pickup truck that was parked in front of his house. The unknown driver did not stop. A police report did not indicate if the burglary and the hit-and-run crash could be related.9 p.m. Thursday — Junction Pizzeria on Mars-Evans City Road in Callery was burglarized. A police report did not indicate if anything was stolen.7:22 p.m. Thursday — Michael A. Ezatoff, 26, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 8 north of Renfrew Road in Penn Township. Police said they also found Ezatoff in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana.5:13 p.m. Thursday — One person was hurt in a two-car crash in Slippery Rock Township. Brooke R. Chickness, 19, of Allison Park, Allegheny County, one of the drivers, suffered a minor injury when her car was rear-ended. She was wearing a seat belt.The other driver, Kylee M. Davis, 20, of New Castle, was cited for following too closely to another vehicle, a police report said.Oct. 2 — For the second time in consecutive months, copper cables or wire was stolen from Route 19 in Muddy Creek Township. The copper cable lines were attached to equipment owned by Nabors, a gas drilling company in Canonsburg, Washington County.On Sept. 19, a large amount of black-coated, 1-inch to 1-and-a-quarter-inch thick copper wire, also owned by Nabors, was stolen from the same road. Police reports did not indicate if the two thefts are connected and if there are there any suspects.Sept. 27 — An unknown trespasser broke into a 68-year-old man's home on Dunlap Road in Harrisville. The break-in happened between 9 p.m. and midnight.
State Police, Clarion 11:32 a.m. Sunday — Derick W. Fowler, 33, of Rimersburg was arrested for allegedly violating a woman's protection from abuse order after he showed up at her home in Clarion Township. Fowler was arraigned on a charge of indirect criminal contempt, and placed in the Clarion County Jail on $10,000 bail.12:40 p.m. Saturday — Lana L. Stockdill, 40, of Rimersburg was hurt when a car hit her as she tried to walk across School Street at Eccles Street in Rimersburg. She was taken to Clarion Hospital with a minor injury following the accident. Joan C. Hamilton, 46, of Rimersburg, who was driving the car, was not cited.2:05 p.m. Friday — Helen M. Hagan, 85, of Parker was hurt when she lost control of her car and spun into an embankment on Doc Walker Road just north of Best Road in Perry Township, Clarion County.Hagan, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Northwest in Seneca with minor injuries. A police report noted the road was wet at the time of the accident and Hagan was not charged.State Police, FranklinFriday — Kyle A. Hirsch, 25, of Emlenton was arrested on charges he stole multiple shotguns after breaking into his grandparents' home in Richland Township about noon Tuesday. Police said Hirsch later sold the guns to an identified person.The suspect was arraigned on felony charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft by deception. He was placed in the Venango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail following arraignment.
State Police, Kittanning4:18 a.m. Sunday — A 47-year-old Karns City man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Bishop Road in Perry Township, Armstrong County.
State Police, Mercer5:15 p.m. Thursday — A 15-year-old boy, who is a detainee at the George Junior Republic juvenile detention center in Pine Township, Mercer County, escaped custody after sliding out the back window of a minivan that was stopped at the facility.The boy made his escape after breaking the bracket on the van's window. He had just returned to the facility from a court hearing. The teen ran off into a wooded area near Pine Road but was later found and returned to George Junior Republic.
State Police, New CastleOct. 5 — An unknown burglar made off with two cases of wine from the kitchen of a home in the 3500 block of Eckert Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The break-in happened between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the suspect entered the house through a side door.
