Cranberry native wins nurse award
VANCOUVER — A former Cranberry Township woman has been honored as the 2011 Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) of the Year.
The National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses presented Debra Bach Clancy with the award Feb. 17 at the AAHPM/HPNA Annual Assembly in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The award recognizes the work of a nurse who personifies excellence in end-of-life care.
A nurse with more than 35 years of experience, Clancy is the case manager with VITAS Innovative Hospice in Walnut Creek, Calif. She works to provide clinically appropriate, evidenced based care to her patient population.
Clancy also helped nursing education by founding the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA).
She grew up in Cranberry, graduating from Seneca Valley High School in 1971. Her father continues to live in Cranberry.
Clancy graduated with a degree in nursing from Penn State University.
