Seven Years

Sometimes I can still remember you running out the door on that last call.

I remember saying goodbye.

And I remember waiting for you to come home.

I can still remember trying to get through one day, one night, one lifetime without you.

Sometimes I wonder what life would have been like for us now.

Who would Cole imitate the most had he known you?

What would it be like for him to have his dad by his side?

But after all this time you've never really left us.

You're in Cole's smile.

The one that reminds me of you.

Especially when I need it.

You're beside me when I need strength.

You're in the hearts of everyone who knew you.

Perhaps the greatest gift you gave to all of us was a deeper, stronger, appreciation for the ones we love, for we never know how long we will have them.

And a greater respect for the sacrifice you and so many others have made.
