Dukes to be sworn in Tuesday
Brandon Dukes will be sworn in as the 12th district representative in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a ceremony Tuesday on the House Floor in the state Capitol.
Dukes, a Democrat, was elected to serve the final months of former Rep. Stephenie Scialabba’s term, which expires at the end of the year, in a special election Aug. 18. Scialabba resigned in March.
By a slim 98-vote margin, Dukes defeated Republican candidate Scott Timko in the special election. Dukes and Timko will face each other in a rematch in the November general election for a full two-year term.
Dukes will be sworn in during a non-voting session of the House beginning at noon. U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania Magistrate Judge Susan E. Schwab will administer the oath of office.
He will be the first Democrat to hold the seat in more than 20 years. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a longtime financial industry professional, Dukes currently lives in Cranberry Township with his wife and daughter.
The 12th Legislative District consists of the townships of Cranberry, Adams and Jackson, as well as the boroughs of Callery, Evans City, Harmony, Mars, Seven Fields, Valencia and Zelienople.
The session will be available to view live on the PA House YouTube channel beginning at noon at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yltKprYwGIY.
