Howe recalls peanut goods out of caution
GROVE CITY — The George J. Howe Co. is one of hundreds of companies nationwide that have recalled all French Burnt Peanut products distributed under its brand because of a possible health risk related to the salmonella outbreak.
The five products Howe makes being recalled came from a manufacturer that used peanuts from the Peanut Corp. of America's plant in Blakely, Ga. The federal Food and Drug Administration linked this plant to a national salmonella outbreak, according to a news release by George J. Howe Co.
None of Howe's recalled products have been found with salmonella, and there have been no reported illnesses or consumer complaints associated with any Howe product. No other Howe products are affected by or involved in this recall.
Karen Walsh, spokesperson for Howe, said the peanuts and other products from the company are sold online and also distributed to large chain stores.
"In all likelihood the roasting process would have killed any salmonella, but the Howe Co. wanted to voluntarily recall their products out of an abundance of caution," Walsh said.
