Hipple

Ross W. Hipple, 87, of Chicora, died at 2:56 p.m. Friday in Butler Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Born May 18, 1920, he was the son of William and Agnes Kubeck Hipple.

He was retired from the silicon department of Butler Armco where he worked for 35 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving from 1940 to 1946 on the Omaha and the Alaska ships.

He was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, the Chicora VFW and the Chicora Moose.

He is survived by three daughters, Cheryl Schodt of Erie, Karen Gardner and her husband, Jeffery, of Deltaville, Va., Colleen Bellis and husband, James, of Butler; one son, William Hipple of Chicora; eight grandsons, one great-grandson; a brother, James "Mole" Hipple and his wife, Mary, of Chicora; and a sister, Margaret Young and her husband, Edward, of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Neff Hipple, whom he married April 8, 1948, and who died Dec. 20, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Hetrick.

<B>HIPPLE</B> — Friends of Ross W. Hipple, who died Friday, March 7, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at <B>STEIGHNERFUNERALHOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. David DeWitt, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
