Shirey

Dennis William "Bill" Shirey, 68, of Perryville, Clarion County, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 6:45 a.m. Monday at his home.

Born in Perry Township, Clarion County, June 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Harold Lee and Mary Sullivan Shirey.

Mr. Shirey was a Protestant.

He was a graduate of the former Parker High School. He was an honorably discharged Army veteran of the Vietnam era and attained the rank of sergeant while serving primarily at Fort Riley, Kan. He served from July 1961 through July 1963.

Following the military, he worked at Emil Long Motors in Emlenton from 1963 to 1987. He then worked at Colony Homes in Shippenville, where he was in the warehouse division at the time of his death.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 598 of Parker and was a longtime member of the Petroleum Valley Bowling League.

Surviving are his wife, Karen Callendar Shirey, who he married Nov. 1, 1969; a sister, Janet Shirey Roddy of Parker; four brothers, Ron and Fred Shirey, both of Parker, Mike Shirey of Foxburg and Bob Shirey of Petrolia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Camillus Shirey.

Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, Wayne Street, Parker. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Park Hill Church of God, Lime Plant Road, West Freedom. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor Lonny Wolford and staff officiating. Burial will be at the Mt.
