BUTLER TWP — Butler's goal was to stop Bethel Park running back Lyle Marsh.

But the rest of the Black Hawks kept going.

Bethel Park buried the Golden Tornado under an avalanche of big plays in posting a 62-13 football triumph Friday night at Art Bernardi Stadium.

The visitors had 11 plays — including special teams — go for 25 yards or more. Seven of them resulted in touchdowns.

"I've never been part of anything like this before,"Butler coach Jeff McAnallen said.

Bethel Park took a 35-0 lead into halftime. Only eight snaps occurred in Black Hawks territory during the first half, none in the first quarter.

"Coming into the game, our goal was to stop (Marsh) and play one-on-one coverage on their receivers,"McAnallen said. "From what we've seen of them, they never threw the ball like they did tonight.

"That kid (QBErik Olson) was putting the ball on the money."

Olson threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. He entered the game with 344 yards and two touchdowns.

"Butler loaded the box and pretty much forced us to throw,"Bethel Park coach Jeff Metheny said. "I'm pleased with the way Erik stepped up and handled things."

Olson threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to John Schademan on a first-down play to open the scoring. On a third-and-27 play, moments after Butler's Dayne Horwat and Tony Fudoli sacked Olson, the quarterback scrambled to the right and found Zach Hay alone behind the coverage for a 44-yard scoring strike.

"Again, we had one-on-one coverage,"McAnallen said. "That was a case where our guy thought the quarterback was going to run with it, but he didn't wait until he crossed the line of scrimmage."

Though the mercy rule was in effect, things didn't get much better for the Tornado (0-4) in the second half.

The Black Hawks (3-1) marched 69 yards in 12 plays after the second-half kickoff, burning 7:58 off the clock. Marsh scored his third touchdown of the game on a 25-yard run.

He had scored on a 4-yard run and a 31-yard screen pass in the second quarter.

Schademan scored on an 85-yard kickoff return and a 75-yard punt return — initially muffing both kicks — and Rob Woolford scored on a 53-yard run for Bethel.

"We didn't want to score 62 points tonight,"Metheny said. "Our offense wasn't even getting on the field for a while there. The kid who scored late (Woolford) is a senior who rarely plays."

Schademan wound up with 305 all-purpose yards Friday — 98 on three receptions and 207 on four special teams returns.

Butler scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half. Fudoli rambled 52 yards with a screen pass from quarterback Cole Harvey and Christos Klutinoty scored on a 3-yard run.

Bethel Park rolled up 406 yards of offense despite running only two offensive plays in the final 16 minutes.

"Offense, defense, special teams — when you lose like this, it all went wrong,"McAnallen said. "It's going to be pretty rough (bouncing back).

"But we haven't played a section game yet. We still have an opportunity that way. As a staff, we're going to do everything we can with our personnel to take advantage of that opportunity."
