RURAL VALLEY — You wouldn't think Freeport's game against winless West Shamokin could be classified as a critical one.

But the Yellowjackets, trying to make a late-season push for a playoff spot, knows there are no easy games.

After surviving the toughest part of its Allegheny Conference schedule, Freeport faces the bottom three teams to close out the regular season.

On Friday, Freeport's defense limited the Wolves to 91 total yards while Andy Teorsky rushed for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 31-6 victory at Jack E. Boyer Field.

"As a team, this was the biggest game of the season because it's the game right now," said Teorsky. "We're playing for a playoff spot."

Freeport (4-3, 4-3) needed just three plays on its first drive to get on the scoreboard against the feisty Wolves, who dressed only 21 players Friday.

Teorsky had runs of 26 and 13 yards before Austin Shockey scored from five yards out. Tom Blythe caught the conversion pass from Alex Isenberg to stake the Yellowjackets to the 8-0 lead.

West Shamokin (0-7, 0-7) mounted its best offensive drive of the game on the ensuing possession, when quarterback Dave Ferringer found a wide-open Jared Hollibaugh for a 36-yard pickup, which would account for most of the team's 47 total yards in the first half.

A roughing-the-passer penalty tacked on five more yards to put the ball at the Freeport 5, but the Yellowjackets defense stiffened, plus a holding penalty pushed the ball back to the 17-yard line.

On fourth-and-goal from the 15, Ferringer's keeper was stopped for no gain and the Yellowjackets took over on downs.

Freeport added to its lead with 4:30 left in the first half when Teorsky capped a five-play, 55-yard drive with a 24-yard scoring run.

Teorsky had runs of 8 and 16 yards sandwiched around a 13-yard pass play to Blythe from Isenberg before the score.

Freeport made it a 18-0 score at halftime when Vidra booted a 27-yard field goal with one second remaining.

Isenberg finished the game completing 9 of 19 passes for 117 yards. Eight of the completions resulted in first downs.

"Alex is just a natural-born leader," said Freeport coach John Gaillot. ""And on defense, he's our signal-caller there, too. You live for a kid who's a leader like him."

Teorsky concurred.

"He's a great leader. ... He's the best I've ever seen," said Teorsky.

Freeport opened the second half with the ball, but on the third play of the drive, the Wolves picked up their only points of the game.

Isenberg threw a pass across the field along the line of scrimmage and Ryan Lasher intercepted it in stride and sprinted 27 yards to the end zone for an 18-6 score.

Any momentum that the Wolves might have gotten, however, was halted when Vidra returned the kickoff 37 yards to the WS 39.

Teorsky ran all four times for those 39 yards, the final a 5-yard run to give Freeport a 24-6 lead with 8:42 left in the third quarter.

Jake Campbell tacked on a 12-yard scoring run with 2:01 remaining in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

"We played well defensively, but we made a few mistakes," said Gaillot. "Our offense made some mistakes and we'll fix that. We're young and things are coming along.

"Overall, I've been happy the past seven games. We ask that the kids play with their hearts every game and they've done that."
