Hail and Farewell
The introduction of new uniforms for Girl Scouts and Brownies sent older Scouters scurrying for uniforms of the past on Dec. 19, 1973. The portrait above was a resulting rare combination of Now and Then. Seated in the front center is Mary Zimmer, 7-year-old Brownie, sponsored by Meridian Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, wearing her new uniform. Perched on the arm of Mary’s chair is Christine Hillard of Troop 421, Dunbar Community Center. This 10-year-old is wearing the newest Junior Scout attire. Standing from left, are Mrs. David Andre, of Troop 419, First United Methodist Church, Butler, wearing the new Cadet leader’s uniform; Mrs. Paul Payung, troop consultant for all Meridian area troops, wearing her former uniform; and two of her granddaughters, Christina of Troop 422, sponsored by Meridian U.P. Church, wearing the former Cadet look; and Anita, of Troop 415, sponsored by Meridian Woman’s Club, wearing the former Junior Scout uniform.
