Matheson

James Aldom Matheson, 89, of Prospect died Thursday evening at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born Jan. 11, 1919, in Tottenville, N.Y., he was the son of Mathes and Evelyn L. Aldom Matheson.

He was a World War II Air Force veteran and a 1947 graduate of the University of Rhode Island.

Mr. Matheson retired after 38 years with Agway, where he worked as a horticulturist and a vegetable plant breeder. He was a member of the Alpha Zeta Honorary Agricultural Fraternity and the Butler County Extension Service.

He was a member and elder of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect. He also was a member of the Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department and had been on the Prospect Borough Council. He attended the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center.

Surviving are his wife, Matilda Petersen Matheson, whom he married May 8, 1943; two sons, James A. Matheson Jr. of Brookline Mass., and Roger A. Matheson of Newburyport, Mass.; a daughter, Paula Matheson Walker of Gaithersburg, Md.; and two grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Edward Matheson of Mesa, Aria., and Thomas Matheson of Narragansett, R.I.; a sister, Doris E. Zuffoletti of Rhode Island; a number of nieces and nephews; and a cousin.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
