JACKSON TWP — Left, right or up the middle — Fox Chapel halfback Montay Green will be a marked man Friday night.

The 6-feet-1, 230-pound senior is the Foxes' workhorse in the team's offset I-formation offense.

The Seneca Valley defense's ability to contain Green will go a long way in determining the outcome of the Quad A non-conference meeting, which is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at NexTier Stadium.

Green rushed for 1,001 yards and a 6.5 yards-per-carry average a season ago.

In last week's 30-7 loss to Baldwin, he gained 148 yards and scored a touchdown.

"He's a big, strong running back," SV coach Don Holl said of Green. "He's got a great reputation and it is well-deserved. He runs with confidence and we have to try and slow him down."

"We kept him out of our two scrimmages because he'd been nursing an injury through the summer," said Fox Chapel coach Bryan Deal of Green. "He's 95 percent."

The Raiders' ground attack is not as clear-cut.

Senior halfback Jack Graham left last week's 40-24 win at Norwin with a knee injury and will not be available for Friday's game.

Troy Witt, who was going to be used primarily as a slot receiver, could see more time in the backfield.

David Hall and Forrest Barnes, a sophomore who scored on a 14-yard touchdown run last week, should also see more carries with Graham out.

"We're still going to need Troy to line up in the slot a lot," said Holl. "We're going to rotate people in at halfback."

Another key to the Raiders' offense is senior wide receiver Jordan Glaser, who caught four passes in Week 1 for 46 yards, including an 18-yard scoring reception early in the fourth quarter.

"We didn't have the best night throwing the football for several reasons, but Jordan is going to be a critical part of what we do on offense," said Holl. "He's been elected a captain by his peers and coaches."

Holl is hoping his team is able to cut down on what he referred to last week as "first-game mistakes."

"You can simulate different things in practice, but things just seem faster in that first game, with the lights on and the fans in the stands," he said. "We need to fix things like lining up in the wrong formation and getting our timing wrong on a sweep play. We were just a little too anxious last week."

Fox Chapel employs a 3-5 defense and after watching SV's no-huddle, spread attack on film, Deal said with a laugh, "It looks like they have 15 players on the field."

Seneca Valley last played Fox Chapel in 2005, with the Foxes winning 14-6.
