BASA, workers OK deal

BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area Sewer Authority and its 31 union workers have come to a 3Z\x year contract agreement.

The BASA board approved the contract Monday. The workers, members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, approved the pact in a recent vote.

The contract is in effect from Aug. 1, 2010, to Dec. 31, 2013, with no retro back pay.

The groups approved a 2.5-percent pay increase effective Oct. 30, another 2.5-percent increase for 2012 and a 2.5-percent increase for 2013.

The authority will give an additional 1 percent employer contribution to the union members’ 401(a) pension plan.

As for health insurance, BASA pays the full premium in 2012, with BASA paying the first 5 percent of any insurance increase in 2013 with employees picking up the balance of any increase up to a maximum monthly contribution of $75 per month.

Also, Christmas Eve has been added as a holiday.

The last contract, which expired in August 2010, also was a three-year contract.
