In November 1971, Butler American Legion Post Commander Leonard Beck presented a heroism certificate and medal to Chris Nicholas, one of 11 awardees at the post’s second annual awards program. Among the other awardees were, from left, Mickey Haley, Josh Nicholas, Ray Horan, Zane Brown, Brian Maxon, Clyde Rodgers and Joseph Weist. Chris and Josh Nicholas were honored for trying to save a drowning boater from Slippery Rock Creek.
