POPPY DAY
The fi rst “Buddy Poppy” of 1966 was sold in Butler to Francis Leith, chairman of the Poppy Day Committee of the VFW, by his grandson, Thomas Leith. The VFW and its Auxiliary had sponsored the poppy sale since 1921, with proceeds used to help disabled and needy veterans and their families.
