Long lines for food
Those in the long line at right were waiting Nov. 22, 1982, on Race Street outside the Salvation Army for some of the 13,400 five-pound blocks of cheese and 38,400 pounds of butter distributed here and at other locations by the Butler County Commissioners. In the background, at left, another group of eligible unemployed people get in line at the Walsh Building on South Chestnut Street for Thanksgiving baskets distributed by the Butler County Human Relations Association and the United Steelworkers of America. City Police helped direct traffic at the two busy sites in the city’s Island district.
