Navy veteran set to start April 27

A permanent director will soon take the helm at the Butler VA Health Care System.

The VA announced this week Kevin Amick will take up his position April 27 at the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Clinic.

Amick replaces interim director Sharon Coyle, who served in the position since former director John Lasell Jr. stepped down in June to care for his father in Texas.

Amick will oversee the Abraham health care facility, which employs more than 800 people, serves more than 26,000 veterans and has an operating budget of $110 million.

“I look forward to joining the Butler VA team to continue to improve access and quality care for our veterans, and to support the staff, veterans and their families through this pandemic,” Amick said. “My wife, Tammi, and I are excited to be joining the community in Butler.”

Prior to his new position with the Butler VA, Amick served as associate director at the Durham Health Care Center in North Carolina.

He began working at the Durham facility in 2010 and served in various positions there before being named associate director.

Amick also served as chief hospital corpsman, among other roles, in the Navy Hospital Corps during his 21-year naval career.

He holds a master's degree in health administration and human resource management from Strayer University and a bachelor's degree in health science from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

Amick is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
