Frank V. Hawthorne Jr.

Frank Vernon Hawthorne Jr., 55, a resident of Slippery Rock Township since 1980, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday at his home.

Born in Pittsburgh, Aug. 18, 1952, he was the son of Mary Bridget Clerkin Hawthorne and the late Frank Vernon Hawthorne Sr.

He was raised in Cranberry Township and graduated from the Seneca Valley High School in 1971.

Mr. Hawthorne was retired from the Allied Trades and Painters Union, having worked throughout Western Pennsylvania.

He enjoyed artistic painting, hiking, kayaking, white-water rafting and canoeing.

Surviving are a daughter, Erin M. Hawthorne Engel of Zelienople; two grandchildren, Leah and Kevin Engel; his mother of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, William M. Hawthorne of Alexandria, Va.; and two sisters, Patsi Forte and her husband, Durwood, of Jacksonville and Peggy Schmitt of Sarasota, Fla.

<B>HAWTHORNE</B> — Friends of Frank Vernon Hawthorne Jr., who died Saturday, June 7, 2008, will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. June 28 at the mill at McConnells Mill State Park, where a memorial service will follow at 10 a.m.Memorial contributions may be given to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, 800 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, info@paconserve.org.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock.
