House returns jobless comp bill to Pa. Senate

HARRISBURG — A bill that would refinance Pennsylvania’s unemployment compensation’s debt to the federal government is back in the state Senate’s hands after passing the House in amended form.

The House voted 193-to-1 on Monday to authorize bonds to pay off the federal loans. The interest is expected to be lower than the roughly 4 percent the federal government charges. House Republican Leader Mike Turzai of Allegheny County calls the proposal “a commonsense measure.”
