William 'Doug' Kimmel

Kimmel

William Douglas "Doug" Kimmel, formerly of Butler, died Friday at his home in Boise, Idaho.

Doug was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Kittanning to William Paul and Vera Delnora Kimmel.

He was an alumnus of Knoch High School and graduated from Penn State University in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in forestry. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Peace Corps, where he served for two years in Nepal.

In 1972, Doug enlisted the Air Force and served in Thailand. It was there he met his beloved wife of 32 years, Kathy.

Upon his return from Thailand, he attended the Oregon Institute of Technology, where he received a degree in land surveying. Doug worked for the Bureau of Land Management for the states of Oregon and Idaho. He drew much satisfaction from his work as a surveyor.

Doug loved to be outdoors. Some of his happiest times were spent hiking with his daughter and traveling through Europe and Thailand with his wife.

In addition to his wife and mother, Doug is survived by his daughter, Dara; a brother, Paul; and two sisters, Deanna and Christine.

He will be remembered for his integrity, kindness and his ability to out-hike people half his age. Doug will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank the countless people who showed such incredible support during this difficult time.
