PITTSBURGH — Amtrak is suggesting that extra trains could be added to its Pittsburgh-to-Harrisburg service.

A new study by Amtrak concludes there are enough potential riders and revenue to consider increasing the route from one daily train in each direction to two.

But adding the extra trains hinges on state and federal support. The study released last week says a pair of new trains would cost about $88 million.

Amtrak estimates the additional annual operating cost for the 165-mile route would be $13.7 million. It would be offset by another 144,000 annual riders and $6.7 million in ticket revenue.

EAST SPRINGFIELD — An autopsy was scheduled on the body of a 51-year-old man discovered when a fisherman got his hook caught on the body in a creek near Erie.Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook identified the man found Sunday morning as 51-year-old Dennis Merritt.Cook says the body was found near the Route 19 bridge in Waterford Township.The waterway is an outlet of Lake LeBoeuf near French Creek.Cook says the man lived in a motel near where his body was found and was carrying money and identification.
