Monument’s elevator shuts offWASHINGTON — The National Park Service said a faulty power supply was to blame for breakdowns Tuesday and Friday of the Washington Monument’s elevator.The park service said the power supply was occasionally causing elevated electrical current to flow to the elevator. When the current went over the limit, the elevator shut down as it’s designed to do to protect people’s safety.
Man survives crash, gets struck by busMALIBU, Calif. — Los Angeles County authorities said a driver who managed to get out of his SUV after it nearly went over a cliff was then struck by a passing bus in Malibu.Sheriff’s officials said the man was conscious when he was rushed to a hospital following the two crashes Saturday.Investigators say the man lost control of his SUV, which slammed into a guardrail and hung precariously over the side of the cliff. Officials said the man was disoriented and when he got out of the vehicle he stepped into lanes of traffic and was struck by a tour bus.
Fight over crab legs turns violentMANCHESTER, Conn. — Police say two people have been arrested after they apparently got into a dispute over crab legs at the Royal Buffet in Manchester.Authorities say a woman complained there was a fight and her 21-year-old son suffered a broken tooth and cut lip.Police say Clifford Knight and Lataya Knight were arrested on disorderly conduct and other charges.
