Bioptechs marks 20th anniversary

Bioptechs, a Summit Township company that develops and manufactures micro-environmental control systems for biological and disease research, celebrated its 20th year in business on July 1.

The company, founded in 1992 by Dan Focht, makes scientific equipment to study live cells at the research level. This equipment allows researchers to use cells from a person rather than a laboratory rat.

Bioptechs products have become the most referenced micro-environmental control systems in Ph.D. level scientific publications, according to a company news release.

Bioptechs’ items are made from a number of local components and services. These components are part of products that are in nearly every large university and pharmaceutical company in the world, according to the release.

Its 20th anniversary celebration was at Focht’s house with a pool-side party. The event was topped off with a performance by Tuika’s Polynesian Island Magic, a Hawaiian Luau entertainment company from Monroeville.

The group provided Polynesian music and a Samoan fire knife exhibition.

Focht plays guitar in the band.
