Major Leaguer Honored
Displaying the plaque that honors George Edward “Rube” Waddell in June 1975 are, from left, James Beatty, Prospect youth sports promoter; Homer Blackburn, major league baseball talent scout; and Francis Griffin, Prospect Historical Commission chairman. Waddell, who amassed 2,316 strikeouts in 13 seasons as a big leaguer with his legendary southpaw fastball, moved to Prospect with his family when he was 15 years old. The plaque was bolted to the boulder in front of the Prospect Library.
