Roland J. Parlanti
Roland J. Parlanti of Stow, Ohio, died Sunday.
Born in Butler to Frank and Georgia Petri Parlanti, he was a World War II Navy veteran and later joined the Merchant Marines.
Construction was his livelihood, in addition to jobs at Pullman Standard.
Roland's love for hunting and fishing took him to Alaska, Canada and Colorado. His hobbies were body building and gardening.
For seven years he played semi-pro football for the Butler Cubs as a tackle.
Mr. Parlanti was a member of the St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, the Italian Club, the French and Belgium Club, and he was a longtime member of the Butler VFW.
Roland was the "muscle" behind the Cats in Need organization that his wife co-founded.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgetta "Jaye;" a son, Dante; and four sisters.
He is survived by sons, Larry (Bonnie) Beck of Stow and Dennis (the late Gayle) Beck of Youngstown, Ohio; grandchildren, Jamie (Dan) McShane, John (Pam) Beck, Mike (Cate) Beck and Bobby Beck; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, Megan, Shane, Amanda, Brandon and Grace.
The family would like to thank Emeritus at Stow and Crossroads Hospice for their wonderful care.
<B>PARLANTI</B> — There will be no services for Roland J. Parlanti, who died Sunday, March 29, 2009. Cremation will take place. Roland and his wife's ashes will be scattered in Alaska.Memorials may be made to the South Butler or to the Herman fire departments.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Redmon Funeral Home, </B>Stow.
