Henry "Hank" Robert Janikowski, 79, of Slippery Rock Township died at 2:19 a.m. Thursday at Sugar Creek Rest, 120 Lakeside Drive, Worthington.

Born in Pittsburgh, Nov. 26, 1929, he was the son of Henry Robert Janikowski Sr. and Barbara Barkovitch.

He was married to Clara J. Fox for more than 48 years.

Mr. Janikowski was a retired union carpenter, having worked for Local 211, Pittsburgh, for more than 30 years.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and member of Slippery Rock American Legion 393 and the Slippery Rock VFW Post 6231.

He was a township commissioner for Shaler Township from 1984 until 1988 and was a former Democratic committeeman for Shaler Township. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member and a past president of the Slippery Rock AARP and a member of the Slippery Rock Senior Center.

He enjoyed gardening.

He was a Catholic.

Surviving are his wife, Clara J. Janikowski of Slippery Rock; three daughters, Dolores J. and her husband, Roy Johnston of Houston, Texas, Roberta A. Fox of Titusville and Dawna L. and her husband, Edward Damico of Slippery Rock; and two sons, Michael H. and his wife, Karen Janikowski of Irwin and Timothy J. and his wife, Paula Janikowski of Pittsburgh. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

<B>JANIKOWSKI</B> — Visitation for Henry "Hank" Robert Janikowski, who died Thursday, March 26, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mathew McClain, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
