HARRISBURG — Attorneys for state Attorney General Kathleen Kane say they're frustrated with the investigation that led to her being charged with perjury and other crimes.

In a statement Friday, the lawyers called on the courts to launch an inquiry into leaks they say have jeopardized her right to hold elected office and receive a fair trial.

They cite a search warrant executed Thursday at Kane's Harrisburg office. They say it was clear reporters had been tipped off because they were waiting there when the warrant was served.

Kane is the first Democrat and first woman to be elected as Pennsylvania's attorney general

She was charged Aug. 6 with perjury, obstruction and other offenses involving what Montgomery County prosecutors say was the leak of confidential information from a 2009 grand jury investigation.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's public safety director has accepted a top job with the Pennsylvania State Police.Stephen Bucar will join the state police in Harrisburg next month as a deputy commissioner.He has been Pittsburgh's public safety chief since June 2014, leading the city's police, fire, paramedic and animal control divisions.Bucar hired a new police chief to replace Nate Harper, who went to federal prison for diverting city money into an illegal slush fund he used for personal expenses.The 55-year-old Bucar worked for the state police early in his career, then had a long career in the FBI. He tells a Pittsburgh newspaper his new job is closer to his home in eastern Pennsylvania.It also comes with a raise of nearly $30,000. He will make about $154,000 with the state police.

PITTSBURGH — Officials say a third transplant patient who contracted a mold infection at a Pittsburgh hospital has died.A Pittsburgh newspaper reports the patient, who had undergone a liver transplant, died Thursday night at UPMC Montefiore. That's next door to UPMC Presbyterian, where two heart transplant patients contracted fungal infections and later died.UPMC Presbyterian said the cardiothoracic intensive care unit was closed Sept. 3 for an environmental cleanup after mold was discovered.UPMC said Friday it's placing all transplant patients at UPMC Presbyterian and Montefiore on new antifungal medications as a precaution.
