Physician joins BHS Primary Care

Dr. Joseph Dougherty joined BHS Primary Care in December, specializing in family and sports medicine.

Dougherty is board certified in family medicine with a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. He received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine, and completed a residency in family medicine at UPMC St. Margaret and a fellowship in sports medicine at Allegheny General Hospital.

In addition to seeing patients, Dougherty has been named the founding program director of the new BHS Family Medicine Residency Program, which he is developing with Dr. Michael Fiorina, vice president of Medical Education. Dougherty brings extensive experience from his time at Allegheny Health Network, where he was a former associate program director of both the Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship. BHS anticipates its first class of residents in July 2023.

Dougherty has given numerous lectures and presentations on concussion management in athletes. He has been team physician for various area high schools as well as the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is also the head varsity baseball and pitching coach for Eden Christian Academy.

Dougherty is practicing at 1651 N. Main St. Extension.
