Sequinettes's white dress returns

BUTLER TWP — The white dress has officially returned to Butler.

For the past few years, the Sequinettes for Butler School District wore a two-piece navy uniform with pants, but that is no longer. The iconic white dress from the early days of the Sequinettes has come back.

The new uniforms were unveiled during the Homecoming game Friday against Pittsburgh’s Central Catholic High School.

The uniforms were designed by Sequinettes’ adviser and former Sequinette herself Sara McLafferty, who was sure to include plenty of the namesake sequins.

The dress includes a swooping pattern reminiscent of the Golden Tornado logo sequined in blue, gold and white on the body of the dress with gold sequins all down the left arm.

Unfortunately, those sequins were part of the reason for the high cost, according to band director Jeff Kroner.

The district is looking to pay roughly $17,300 for 70 uniforms, Kroner said.

“Sequins are where a lot of the money is coming from, but they are the Sequinettes,” he said.

But all of those sequins really pop under the bright stadium lights, he said.
