When I originally read your post, I thought it said at UPMC, $400, then I looked again and you said $4000??! UPMC tried and failed to get their hands on the Butler Health System and they have been trying to run AGH and West Penn out, so they can have a monopoly. I guess when they own the hospital, the insurance plan and half of Congress, they can charge what they want. It seems like collusion, though - a hospital should not be allowed to own an insurance company. AGH said they have proof that UPMC insurance pays AGH less than they pay a UPMC provider for the same treatment.

Whatever happened to the monopoly laws?
