Saxonburg water tower getting a face lift from PA American Water
By the end of 2026, Saxonburg’s 250,000-gallon water storage tower on West Main Street will have a whole new look for the first time in nearly three decades.
Earlier this month, Pennsylvania American Water began rehabilitation work on the water tower, a process which will include abrasive blasting and recoating of the tower’s exterior and interior. According to a news release from Pennsylvania American Water, this will mark the first rehabilitation project on the tower in roughly 25 years.
The project is expected to finish by the end of October, with workers on site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.
Clearcreek Coatings, based in New Carlisle, Ohio, is the contractor tasked with carrying out the project.
In a message sent to Saxonburg residents, Pennsylvania American Water reassured them that no major water service impacts were expected as a result of the project, although “...customers may experience a slight discoloration of water when the tank is placed back into service.”
The cost of the project is estimated at $416,300, all of which will be spent by the company itself and not by the borough’s taxpayers.
“(The) project represents a critical investment for the company in support of our commitment to provide customers with safe, reliable water service,” the message reads.
When the project is complete, residents will see the Pennsylvania American Water logo painted on the top of the tower, as well as the word Saxonburg. Currently, there are no markings on the tower.
