Roxer

William J. Roxer, 91, of Zelienople died Wednesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital.

Born March 20, 1918, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Julius and Marie (Yochim) Roxer.

Mr. Roxer was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He retired in 1973 from the Pennsylvania Railroad as supervisor of the timekeeping department.

He was a member of the Harmony Historical Society and the Portersville Keenagers and a former member of the Zelienople American Legion.

Mr. Roxer was a longtime resident of the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople and a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Ruth A. Hinkelman and her husband, Alan, of Mount Lebanon; his son, Paul E. Roxer and his wife, Deborah, of Virginia Beach, Va.; his sister-in-law, Margaret Carey of New York; and five grandchildren, Justin Roxer (Glorianne), Pamela Ledgerwood (Joseph), Jeffrey Hinkelman, Christy Lynn Hinkelman and Thomas Hinkelman (Gayle). Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Alice (Ziriak) Roxer, who died April 9, 1997, and a sister, Elizabeth Maier.
