Firefighters from the Butler Township Fire District Station 3 and the VA Butler Fire Department help to put out a small fire in the garage at 123 Irene Drive.

BUTLER TWP — Firefighters responded Wednesday night to the same Irene Drive home that was aflame Sunday.

Butler Township Fire District Station 3 and the VA Butler Fire Department responded to the house at 123 Irene Drive, which has been vacant since Sunday's fire.

Butler Township Fire District Station 3 Chief Dave Bestwick said he believed the fire, which started about 7 p.m., was caused by a riding mower still in a garage at the home.

“I believe it was a battery to the lawn mower that shorted out and melted the seat,” he said.

Bestwick said the departments saw some smoke and smaller flames upon arrival, but the fire was easily-handled.

“We were able to get on scene quickly,” Bestwick said. “It didn't take much water to put it (the fire) out.”

The house and garage were deemed a total loss earlier this week, after a fire on Sunday started in the garage about 4 p.m. and caused severe damage to the home. The cause of that fire remains undetermined.
