Jim F.

Jim, you missed the point. Insurance rates aren't arrived at solely on whether it is a male or female, but the rates are determined based on math(probability). With car insurance, young males have higher rates. Why? Because, based on millions on insured drivers, males have a higher accident rate than females. Thus, males have higher rates than females.

Health insurance is similar. The Actuaries don't sit there in a smoke filled room trying to figure ways to discriminate against women. Females live longer and apparently have more medical needs than men throughout their lives. Thus, they may pay higher premiums than men(though I pay a slightly higher rate than my wife......hey, that's not fair. I want to pay exactly what she pays).

All insurance rates are based on probability of need, or usage,or prior history, not on some discriminatory metric.

Though I'm sure you and I will agree that our health insurance premiums are far higher than either of us want to pay.

I run, bike, and go to the gym. I don't smoke or use any drugs. My BMI is 21. Guess what. I pay the same as any other guy my age(at least on my plan) Now I don't think that is remotely fair, but then a lot of things in life aren't fair. It's how you deal with the issues that determines your level of happiness in your life.
