I'm sure you realize that, as many here have told you numerous times, the problem isn't enough taxes available to run our country. The problem is a federal government that refuses to pass a budget and more importantly, a federal government that spends money that it doesn't have.
I have given you the facts about the "rich". Again, the top 1% of earners pay 36.73% of all federal taxes. The top 10% pay 70.47% of all federal taxes. Almost 50% pay zero federal taxes. Is that a "fair" tax code?
Suppose the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire. Who gets hurt? Well, the 10% bracket becomes the 15% bracket. Looks like lower income people will be hurt. A single filer earning 40K/year will pay $400 more per year. 80K earner will pay $1600 more. A couple earning 80K a year will pay $2200 more per year. Is that a good thing?
What we need is a balanced budget amendment,a total reform of the tax code (flat tax?), a total reform of all entitlement programs, and a lowering of all taxes accompanied by an elimination of loopholes and most tax deductions.
This isn't a partisan problem, it is a federal government problem.
Sending more of our hard-earned tax dollars to Washington to fund failed solar energy companies and other "green" energy projects is wasteful. Trying to pick and choose which sectors to bail out (the auto companies that were bailed out still owe us tens of billions) failed.
Paying farmers to not grow crops seems ludicrous at best.
What do you do when your expenses are greater than your income? Do you go to a bank and take out a loan and go even deeper in debt? Hardly. I'm sure that you cut expenses and live within your means. Our government fails to understand that simple fact. I'll never pretend to understand macroeconomics, but simple common sense frequently trumps the expertise of so-called experts.
The tax dollars are there to run our country. However the common sense to spend it wisely seems to be sorely lacking.
