Geraldine N. Shields
Geraldine Naomi Ladds Shields, 95, of the Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, formerly of Grove City; Long View, Texas, and Iola, Kan., died Monday at the Grove City Medical Center following a short illness.
Born in Franklin, Venango County, Feb. 5, 1914, she was the daughter of William Ladds and Eva Belle Moon Ladds.
She married W. Arthur Shields, Sept. 2, 1939. He died May 27, 1997.
She graduated from Grove City High School in 1932 and later graduated from the Meadville Business School.
She worker for the Talon Co. in Meadville for five years. In addition to being a homemaker, she did occasional book keeping and clerking for small local businesses.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Iola, Kan., and the Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township, for many years. She was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Columbiana, Ohio.
She enjoyed life and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra A. Yarian of Volant and Sharon E. Rohlmeier and her husband, Lyle, of Lawrence, Kan.; and two sons, Eugene F. Shields of Longview, Texas, and Joseph A. Shields of Ocala, Fla. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William; four sisters, Bernice Gwynn Whelan, Josephine Worley, Eva Agens Mackey and Jane Kirk; and a son-in-law, John Yarian.
<B>SHIELDS</B> — Services for Geraldine Naomi Ladds Shields, who died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Baptist Church, Currie Road, Slippery Rock in Worth Township. The Rev. Thomas Meling, church pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Zion Baptist Cemetery.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Leesburg.Memorial contributions may be given to the Zion Baptist Church, 154 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
