Hovis

Robert "Bob" E. Hovis, 79, of Butler passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Cochranton, the son of the late William and Blanche (Bell) Clifford.

Bob was a veteran of the Air Force, having served in the Korean War.

He was a Protestant.

He was the past commander of American Legion 117, present commander of the AM Vets 272 and a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks and the Meadville VFW. He had been involved with the Republican Party in Butler.

Bob graduated with a bachelor's degree in teaching from Penn State University in 1957. He retired after many years of teaching in the Butler School District.

Surviving are his longtime companion, Lila "Flossie" Snyder of Butler; a daughter, Merri and Willy Williams of Franklin; a son, Robert R. Hovis of Oil City; four grandchildren, April, Stephanie, Johnny and Lindsay, all of Franklin; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Lohgan of Franklin; a brother, Charles Hovis of Harmonsburg, Pa; two nieces; and a nephew.

Hovis, who died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and from 6 until the time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., with the Rev.
