Robert D. Whitmer, 78, of Gretna, La., died Friday.

He was a native of Petrolia.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie A. "Margie" Whitmer; father of Charles M. Whitmer, Terri W. Johnson and Timothy A. Whitmer; father-in-law of Julie Whitmer, Christopher Johnson and Dawn Whitmer; son of the late Hazel Hutchison Whitmer and Charles M. Whitmer; brother of Joseph Whitmer; grandfather of Ashley Comeaux, Megan Whitmer, Brittany Johnson and Brooke Whitmer; and great-grandfather of Tyler Comeaux.
