FREEPORT — Dignitaries will arrive in horse and buggy Tuesday.

A 7 p.m. ceremony to be outside the Freeport high-rise across from Riverside Park will be a re-enactment of the original 1833 charter signing that created the borough.

The Freeport Theatre Festival is working with the borough's 175th anniversary committee to present the re-enactment.

Freeport kindergarten students will sing patriotic songs at the event. Eight girls also will perform an old-fashioned Maypole dance in which they intertwine different colored ribbons.

The Pennsylvania State Borough's Association will present a plaque to borough council.

People at the event can sit in bleachers or bring lawn chairs.

Sue Hunter, who is cochairwoman of the anniversary committee with her husband Bob, said a weeklong anniversary celebration will be held at Riverside Park from July 26 to Aug. 2.
