Musical Theatre Guild costumers are busy dusting off their habits for another rendition of the hit comedy show "Nunsense," which opens on July 11 at the MTG Production Center in Memorial Park.

Reprising her role as Mother Superior is the talented Lori Williamson of Lyndora.

"I have the dubious distinction of being the only actress who has played the same role in every incarnation of 'Nunsense' and its sequels to have been presented in Butler," said Williamson. She first appeared as the Reverend Mother in the 1994 Butler Little Theatre production of "Nunsense II," then in 1995 in the MTG production of "Nunsense" and again in their "Nunsense II," then in 2005 in the MTG's "Meshugganuns."

"I even made a special guest appearance for the final song in 'Nunsense Amen!' at the MTG," she recalled.

Williamson said she is eager for the chance to reprise the role this time since the original show hasn't been done here in 13 years.

"I was reading through an old diary I was keeping at the time and I had written in there, 'I wish I could do this show every day for the rest of my life,'" said Williamson, who will get her wish through July 20 at least.

"The shows are good-natured and only slightly risque. We've had a number of nuns and priests in the past audiences who have enjoyed it, so it's not that naughty," Williamson said reassuringly.

Also donning the black and white again for the role of sister Robert Anne is Becky Plymale of Butler.

"After a lengthy hiatus from the MTG stage, I am reprising the role of Sister Robert Anne which I played in 'Nunsense II,' " said Plymale, who actually played Sister Hubert in the "Nunsense" 13 years ago.

"I love Robert because she is ornery and irreverent. She has a lot of energy but deep down is very caring," Plymale said. "I also wanted to do the role because the entire show, with the five sisters, is more fun to do than an actor should have on the stage."

Plymale said her favorite song is "Drive-In" because she claims the three-part harmony is fabulous.

"My favorite group number is 'We've Got to Clean Out the Freezer' because it is hysterical. If I had to choose a solo, that would be 'Playing Second Fiddle' because it shows Robert's personality," she added.

Martha and Robin Kriley of Forward Township are not sisters, but they do play them on stage. This mother-daughter duo will be portraying Sisters Mary Leo and Mary Amnesia. "I've been involved with theater most of my life, but this show is especially fun for me because I get to do it with my mom, who plays Sister Mary Amnesia," said the 19-year-old Kriley.

"I first played the role of Sister Mary Amnesia 13 years ago. What a blast! It's just pure fun," said her mother Robin.

"The summer shows feature small casts and since the productions take place at the MTG production center in the park, the audience is very close to the actors, making the entire experience much more personal," she said.

She said her favorite song is "So You Want to Be a Nun."

"It's not the most musical piece in the show but it definitely is one of the most challenging. Sister Amnesia is in a singing battle with her alter-ego Sister Marionette," explained Robin Kriley, remembering the laughter from the audience during that number in years past.

Carol Albright of Butler is the final nun rounding out the group, reprising her role of Sister Mary Hubert. She sees the show as therapy.

"Laughter keeps you grounded and sane in this crazy world. Come laugh with us," she said.

The show is being produced by Barb Osche and Jaci Shields and is under the direction of Ken Schreffler Jr.

"I think the Butler audiences will enjoy 'Nunsense' because we have done it before and it went very well. It is the kind of show you can see over again and catch things you might have missed the first time you saw it," Schreffler said.

The show will be presented in the air-conditioned MTG Production Center at the rear of Butler Memorial Park.

Tickets are currently available for $15 at May's Music Shoppe, 247 E. Jefferson St. Seats are limited, but still available.
