'Cuckoo's Nest' brought to stage

Kean production includes 2 local performers

GIBSONIA — Dale Wasserman's adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sept. 26 and 27 at the Kean Theatre, 5847 Meridian Road.

"Cuckoo's Nest" explores a world where sanity means conformity and following the rules is the only way to survive.

Playing crazy to avoid prison work detail, the brash Randle P. McMurphy is sent to the state mental hospital. He befriends the inmates and instigates revolts against the tyrannical Nurse Ratched.

Tom Smithyman as McMurphy faces off against Ginny Quaglia as Nurse Ratched. Kean veteran Ricardo Vila-Roger plays Billy Bibbit; Gregory Caridi plays Dale Harding and J.P. Patrick is Chief Bromden.

Casey Bowser of Center Township portrays Aide Warren. He last appeared as Leo Clark in "Leading Ladies" at the Butler Little Theatre.Don Pepe of Harmony plays the role of Martini. Pepe has acted, sung and directed plays for much of his adult life. He minored in theater in both his undergraduate and graduate degrees and has extensive experience singing on stage. He starred as Italian opera singer Tito Morelli in the Kean Theatre's production of "Lend Me a Tenor."The Kean Theatre is operated by St. Barnabas Charities, the fundraising arm of St. Barnabas Health System.
