Traco latest to have layoffs, with less than 40
CRANBERRY TWP — Fewer than 40 workers have been laid off by replacement window manufacturer Traco.
Denise Abraham, Traco manager of marketing communications, said the economic downturn is the cause of these layoffs, which have occurred across the company.
Traco has its headquarters and a large manufacturing facility in Cranberry, and it has manufacturing plants in Johnson City, Tenn., and Bainbridge, Ga.
It has more than 1,800 workers overall.
"Our business is cyclical, but these layoffs are because of the economy," she said, adding that she has no idea if more layoffs will come.
"It depends on the economy, but we've (Traco) been around for 66 years, and I believe we'll weather the storm," Abraham said.
Butler County businesses Napco, Penn United Technologies, II-VI, the Butler Health System and AK Steel have announced layoffs in recent months.
Indspec in Petrolia, which will idle its entire plant in a few weeks, will temporarily lay off about 190 employees, with hopes of returning everyone to work in two to three months.
