IN BRIEF

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has a 10-year agreement to develop and manage a cancer center in Colombia, South America.

UPMC said the deal with the Fundacion Cardiovascular de Colombia, or FCV, will create the first private cancer center there.

The facility to be known as the Oncology Institute at the Hospital International de Colombia is expected to open next year.

The center will be financed by FCV and will offer chemotherapy and radiation treatments, as well as bone marrow transplants. The center will also offer counseling, nutrition, pain management and palliative care. UPMC said statistics show Colombia will have 80,000 new cancer cases this year.
