Steelers’ Adams sues 3 men

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Mike Adams has sued three men who last year were acquitted of criminal charges that they attacked him outside a sandwich shop in June 2013.

Adams’ lawsuit filed Wednesday claims Jerrell Whitlock, Dquay Means and Michael Paranay accosted him and wanted to steal his vehicle about 3 a.m. that night and that Whitlock stabbed him after Means pulled a gun.

The men were acquitted of aggravated assault and attempted homicide charges last April, after they claimed that Adams made up the carjacking story after he scuffled with the men while drunk. Means and Paranay already have suits pending in court alleging they were wrongly prosecuted because of Adams’ allegedly false claims.

Restaurants collect for dog memorial

PITTSBURGH — Several Pittsburgh-area Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants were collecting money to help pay for a statue to memorialize a city police dog that was fatally stabbed last year.

So far, about $31,000 of the $50,000 cost for the Officer Rocco statue has been raised.

Restaurants were donating sales proceeds during Wednesday’s Remembering Officer Rocco Event.

Twenty-two-year-old John Rush was convicted last month of stabbing the dog in January 2014 during an arrest. The incident prompted the Legislature to stiffen the penalty for abusing or killing police animals.
